Last week, St Bernadette’s Primary, Dundas commemorated Anzac Day with a very special assembly which included Leading Seaman De-Anne Chatillon, Corporal Boyd Chatillon, LT Colonel Alex Loo and Petty Officer Shane Patterson.
With a number of defence force families at St Bernadette’s, the school honoured those who have served and are serving in the Australian defence force. In fact, on the 100 year anniversary of the Anzac landing at Gallipoli, one of the dads, Able Seaman Pernitsch who is serving on the HMAS ANZAC, was serving at Gallipoli.
During the week, the children, under guidance of their wonderful teachers, learnt about Anzac Day and some of its traditions. All student listened to stories of service, Anzac traditions and ideals of courage, endurance and mate ship, qualities that are still present today.
And so on this special anniversary of Anzac Day, while we pay tribute to those who have served in the armed forces and send our thanks to those currently in service, we pray for lasting peace in our world.
